Save the Date!

We are excited to announce the location of Kwero 2011 will be the historic Mayo Hotel in downtown Tulsa! The Mayo Hotel opened in 1925 and according to it's website, "The Mayo quickly became a popular gathering place for Tulsa high society, playing host to notable guests throughout the 20th century, including President John F. Kennedy, Bob Hope, Charles Lindbergh, Babe Ruth, Charlie Chaplin and Mae West. The hotel was even home to famous oilman J. Paul Getty. The tallest building in the city from 1925 to 1927 with an 18-story tower, the 600-room hotel was also a shining example of the Mayo brothers' foresight and uncompromising attention to detail, boasting the most modern amenities including ceiling fans in each room and Tulsa's first running ice water.

"In 1980, The Mayo was listed in the National Register of Historic Places. After a failed renovation attempt in the early 1980s, The Mayo was abandoned for twenty years until the Snyder family purchased the building for $250,000 in 2001. The Snyders set out to restore the hotel to its former glory, undertaking the project with the same passion and determination of the Mayo brothers.

"As a result of their persistent efforts, this historic hotel in downtown Tulsa, OK has returned and is more brilliant than ever. With 70 luxury residences, 102 hotel rooms and opulent event space, your opportunities to experience this brilliance are endless."

Project Hope Worldwide

Project Hope Worldwide is a non-profit organization that is seeking to improve the lives of orphans and widows nationwide. Their current focus is building a village in Lira, Uganda for orphans and widows. The village, called "Calo Me Lare" or "Village of Redemption", will consist of “2 circles” with each circle comprising of 8 homes. (You can see a model of the children's homes here.) Each home will be a family unit of 8 children and a house mother, who is a widow from the community. In addition to attending school, the children will be mentored in financial management, vocational training, farming and agriculture, and character development. Those showing aptitude for continuing education will be provided an opportunity to attend a university.
